This photograph was taken at a Hindu religious ceremony which lasted for 7 days. The teaching began with "Pothi Yatra" which was a procession where devotees carried a copy of "Srimad Bhagavata" (wrapped in silk cloth) to the alter so that the text (and learning) will receive the blessings of the Lord.

ARTIST STATEMENT: JQ_GAINES

JACQUELINE GAINES | UNITED STATES

After studying painting and printmaking at Pratt Institute, I owned and operated a Book Arts and Textiles studio in NYC. Working there for about 15 years, I divided my time between designing and creating one-of-a-kind books and teaching traditional bobbin lacemaking techniques.

But after we had our first child, I decided to put my career on hold.... and for a long time, I did not expect that I was ever going to be able to focus on my art again.

However, three years ago my husband and kids surprised me with an iPad and iPhone, insisting that I was “too old-fashioned” and needed to “get with the times.” These devices instantly rekindled my passion for painting, and introduced me to Photography.
